The walls she's built to protect herself from all that had happened had served her. But she didn't need them anymore. Writing the book had changed her. Had lessened the emotional scars. Had, in a way, healed her. At least as much as was possible without ever having known the love of her mother. "....

So the story begins with Grace Adams and the book she wrote, "The Many Lives of June Crandall." The story goes back and forth from the time that Grace was a child in an orphanage until a major revelation on her book event day. There is a time she dreams of herself as June's daughter during wartime in Germany. There are many other stories as she dreams of June in different places in time.

During the time between dreams of June we learn about Grace and her life, her talent for writing. Who is June and why does Grace dream like this? In each dream June is treating Grace with the affection a parent would. Teaching her things, showing her how to cope with whatever current situation she is in.

Life changes in so many ways. What if June is more than a dream? What a wonderful story! All the questions are answered. I loved the ending. It was nice to see what happened and how everything was connected. I loved Grace's character and the child she was. Overcoming abuse and things no child should have to deal with. A very unique story.

Even though this was a good read, I kept waiting for more. Ms. Vince writes very well, but her constant accolades to the writer in the story makes me suspect the true author doubts her own skills; she shouldn't. This story is well-written, but just a little too predictable. The intrigue of the recurring character in Grace's dreams held such promise that, in the end, just never developed into anything more than what was expected, and became rather anticlimactic and almost unnecessary to the story. I almost felt that there were actually two or possibly even three different stories that, in the end, somehow got smooshed into one, perhaps because of an editor's deadline? Definitely a book I would recommend to anyone wanting to read a good double romance, and an "everything is going to turn out okay" kind of feel-good story. It scores high marks in all those areas. I just wish Ms. Vince had taken more of a risk--I certainly think she has the writing skills to have turned this novel into so much more.

This story starts out with a little girl named Grace, who longs for her birth mother so much, that she has dreams at night of women and a man, all named June, who hug and comfort, and love her. She's so sad and filled with angst in the beginning, that it was like starting out a caterpillar, and morphing into the most gorgeous butterfly. In the beginning, Grace suffers the trials and tribulations of growing up in several orphanages, and eventually, various homes with their own drawbacks. Her written stories and drawings are of the loving June Crandalls throughout history and around the world, that she dreams about, and which bring her a sense of belonging, and eventually both monetary and public attention. Attending college, she finally finds her bearings and purpose in life with a double major in art and writing, and working in a job which suits her well.

From that point on, it's to the moon on gossamer wings, as the puzzle pieces of her life finally start dropping into place.

I loved the rather long ending, but long or not, I wouldn't want to change a thing. It's absolutely perfect, and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Fantastic Book! Breathtaking ending! I loved it!

Who is June Crandall and why does she appear in so many of Grace’s dreams? Grace is an orphan and as far as she knows her mother gave her to the nuns not long after she was born and walked out of her life forever. When Grace is 8 years old a trauma of life in general hits her hard and now she starts dreaming of June who is almost too real. As grace gets older she finds that every trauma brings her back to the dreams of June, Is June really who she thinks she is, possibly Graces mother and if she is why is she in Graces dreams and not her life? The truth could destroy Grace but she truly needs some answers. The answers she gets will not only turn her whole world upside down but may possibly end her losing her heart forever! Really good read with an even better end!!!

Grace Adams is sure her parents are really wonderful and love her totally, it’s just that circumstances have dictated otherwise, at least until she makes the effort to find out the truth. In the end, though, despite hardships and abuse, they all find each other and it works out happily ever after after all.

The Many Lives of June Crandall by Suzanne Vince is every abandoned child’s fantasy. It’s well enough written to hold attention, and the stories along the way are absorbing; while the tragedies seem realistic, the lucky breaks seem a bit overly fortuitous.

Grace is resilient. Although she endures some hardships and abuse, you never get the feeling that Grace suffered deeply, nor did she ever seem to react to her positive or upbeat experiences. Perhaps her even keel keeps the book from being more affecting and memorable.

If you’re looking for a bit of saccharin romance, with a lump or two along the way, this will sweeten your weekend.

I can't stress enough how great this book was, I was won over from just the synopsis. The story takes hold of you and doesn't let go. This author really knows how to make your heart squeeze, and keep you rapt with attention. She has a certain unique quality to her writing that will have me following her works. Grace's story is not blowing sunshine up your you know what, she suffers trials and there is so much angst to her young self. It was captivating to see her grow and mature and find herself. I definitely recommend this book and a handful of tissues. I very much look forward to reading more from Ms. Suzanne Whitfield Vince.
